# Understanding EUR- and USD-linked units

# Familiar currency. A modern settlement rail.

USDC and EURC are units linked to USD and EUR. They are issued by Circle, designed to be redeemable at equal value and backed by reserves.

Byzantine uses them as an internal settlement layer. Users can add or withdraw EUR or USD by bank transfer through regulated partners.

## Why they are used

* Continuous settlement
* Transparent movement records
* Compatibility with automatic strategy execution
* Exposure in the selected currency

The issuer, reserves, redemption conditions, regulatory status and partner terms remain important considerations.
